It does not, Jody ported back a module from uDig that worked with tiles,
but there were issues and
the module was removed (don't exactly remember why).
If you are interested in maintaining the module I believe we can try to
resurrect it?
GeoServer supports WMTS using GeoWebCache, but that is server side support,
not client side one
