Ian I removed most of the deprecated code around filters (on master only).
bbox( expression1, expression2 ) does not exist as part of the spec that is
why you are having some trouble with it. Most of the spatial operations
that can benefit from a BBOX optimisation already use it - we made a
special marker interface in order to recognise these ones.
bbox instead takes a propertyName, followed by several literals including
an SRS string representing the CRS.
Note when removing the deprecated code bbox gave me the most trouble so it
is entirely possible that life is more difficult now.
