Hi Ian, after the discussion on geosever-devel it became evident we still have one more release in the maintenance series (Feb 2016, see the updated release schedule, https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/wiki/Release-Schedule) but it's still a good idea to start migrating to the current stable series now
