No time to look into the issue, but also using Oracle is getting more and
more rare by the day. Oracle with a mosaic, even less common.

I'd go with the second, force java.sql.Timestamp to be mapped to the
TIMESTAMP type. But you'll have to make sure the Oracle online tests
are still passing after making that change, in particular at
least OracleDateOnlineTest and the various OracleTimeZone... ones.
To run them from your IDE you'll have to add the JDBC driver in your
classpath, running them the first time will generate a sample
connection config file in $home/.geotools/oracle.properties.example, rename
it to oracle.properties and adjust the connection
params, at that point the test should be able to run instead of being
skipped.
