I would come, if my work schedule allows. On that point, I would vote for Monday over Tuesday. (Also, I think there's a Bruce Sterling lecture on Tuesday.)

Hi Mike

I'm all for trying new things. I think the audience might be fellow geowankers as we're the ones who care/think most about these things. I can comfortable hold about 20 bodies at our office. How about the evening of Sept 25 (Mon) or 26 (Tues)?

First topic could be 'the future of the gazetteer.' Or something continuing Andrea Moad's geo-clustering string. Or Rich G could reach into a bag and pull out a topic!

What a great idea Ian. I'd be glad to make the trip up from palo alto for  a geo teach in. Who do you imagine the audience might be?

Just meeting, without an 'audience' is possible idea too. Although there are quite a few of us here in the SF bay area, we've only gathered in small numbers over the last 2-3 years. We could, for example, form  a bay area chapter of 'Geomancers' (the Boston/Cambridge geohackers group.) that meets irregularly for beers, and tech exchanges.

I'm interested in organizing a geophile teach-in. I have my issues, and everybody has their own ;).

Thought a semi-informal get together once in a while could be fun, informative, instructive, and...who knows what else.

I'm volunteering Urban Mapping's office to host an event. Would love one or two others to help organize with me. If it works I'd love to host something like this once in a while. UMI is located in Mission Bay, 2 blocks from Caltrain terminus.

Initial questions on my mind are: topics, format, timing
