I'm working with Bristol City, in the UK, to create a map of the wireless
networks across it's city centre. With a reasonably small budget, my aim is
to create something that is open, and a first step that will be supported
with future development. We plan to create both a database of network
information with a public API, and an online map which utilizes that info.
Hi, I'm Drew from WiFiMaps.com. We have a bunch of data in
Postgres attached to Mapserver at our spot -- wms and wfs-capable. We do,
however, need some help to clean it up into a more useful/accessible
fashion (hint: plea for help).
My partner Eric and I have been a bit distracted, but I've been
working on changing the CMS, and making a poor attempt at rewriting pieces
of our application.
We've agreed to release our data under the GPL license.
As far as parsers, my buddy Gus wrote a neat C parser for
netstumbler's format, which is located here: http://www.evillabs.net
(note: we understand other systems exist, namely Wigle, but it's API is not
supported and it's current visualization bad for general public usage. We
plan to output our information back into Wigle)
Hm, I've tried to talk to these people before, but they've been
pretty rude, and were unwilling to even talk to us.
What we've intended, is to not only be a WMS and WFS-capable
supplier of WiFi data, but to integrate with third-party applications --
like Placelab, and others. Again, we need some help whipping this stuff
into shape, and would love to talk to you, or others lurking on the list
about helping us publish our data, and fix our application.
And, of course, we're happy to help out in any way we can.
