This is not good news, but not a total disaster, although developers will be denied access to the client hardware platform, there is no reason why anyone can't develop amazing web-based services accessible from the iphone's built-in safari browser. My sole concern about the iphone as a platform for location based services, is how to programatically utilize unique MAC adresses of wifi access points for geolocation processing. I am hoping that Apple willl at least expose some level of access to the wifi connection functions.

messed up.""

Ouch.
