They want industry-wide geo questions. Go for it. We have until EOD Monday.

Easy one.

"How do you expect to remain relevant in the face of Google Earth, Virtual Earth, and the upcoming technologies that have nothing to do with Web 2.0, can't be displayed by AJAX, and require standalone programs that have access to hardware acceleration?"

I can't even see that MapQuest have anything to do with geo-*... taking maps from paper and showing them in a web browser isn't something that puts them in the forefront of technology. Kind of like Deepfish, really. Maybe MapQuest can add a mouse wheel!

The real story for geowanking technologies are based on OpenGL ES in the browser, what happens after Flash 9, and virtual machines where full programs can be safely run without the nappy shield of the web browser.

VRML died, but it will come back in some form. All current projects based around geomapping are being stifled by up-front standardisation, so we'll see innovation from people who break all the rules.
