Have you done any personal research or study on the subject? I'm tempted to torture my coworkers with a little survey on the subject just to see what the results would be. What, for example, would be the differences between landmarks commonly used by my male coworkers when compared with my female coworkers? It really got started in 1976 when Peter Gould published his first work on the topic. There is also a fair bit of awareness of this in the urban design community.
