> Can we get a show of hands for Playa Geowankers?

hand up here.

Note doing software projects in the desert can be pretty unforgiving
obviously; but even more so than might be expected. In 2000 I did a small
software project for burning man that later made into geourl -> it was
pretty hellacious even being able to demo the idea in that environment...
grit got into the computer, the screen was illegible, everybody was wasted
and didn't want to focus on a video display. Several other projects I
contributed to also got demolished by conditions: vandalism, wind, rain,
dust; in particular a large one from MIT that was trying to project images
from a helium balloon onto a dome in real time... which ended up as a mire
of barco projectors in the mud with a torn flapping dirty sheet that once
vaguely resembled a dome whipping in the wind above the skeletal struts as a
kind of surrender flag...

On an unrelated note -> Since the tail of the email got pushed to geowanking
out of some chatting we were doing in the background I should clarify some
of the context there if people care:

Tom Longson has a project called http://openviewproject.org which proposes
to do a google street view for burning man. This seemed similar to the idea
of doing an open voxel space although I think our consensus was that they
shouldn't be tied together - since that just burdens each. I was in
agreement with Tom in that this is probably controversial.

Also; several people have noticed a new video from RadioHead that plays
around with some LIDAR data - it is worth looking at - here:
http://code.google.com/creative/radiohead/viewer.html . The same kind of
data could be manufactured with multiple conventional cameras as well - with
a bit more work.

...and now back to our regularily scheduled wanking...
