Hi all,

I wanted to introduce a new site I just launched a few days ago,
DIYcity<http://diycity.org>
.

DIYcity is a site where people invent ways to make their cities work better
with the use of web technologies, and then actually build and launch those
ideas, releasing them into the world for people to use.

Data mashups, geolocation, maps, mobile apps -- all of these things and more
will be topics of inquiry as we look for ways in which web technology can be
used to transform our cities and towns, making them into more efficient,
effective, and sustainable places to live.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, I invite you to check out the site
and join in the fun.

Some ways you can get started include:

• Sign up and join the Main Group <http://diycity.org/?q=node/16> to keep up
on new developments.

• If you live in the New York area you can join the NYC
group<http://diycity.org/?q=node/17>to connect with others working on
this in your area. (There are also local
groups sprouting up for Portland Oregon, Milwaukee, Sacramento, and College
Station -- if you are from any of those places you can join those groups as
well.)

• If you live elsewhere, you can log in and start a local group for your
area <http://diycity.org/?q=node/add/local-group-homepage>, where users can
discuss solutions to local issues.

• Post questions, answers or ideas to the site wherever the urge strikes
you.

So check it out!

John

p.s. for any of you who know me through outside.in, I'm still working full
time plus on that, and it's still going strong. This is just a little
side-project that I'm taking on in my off hours out of personal interest.

(And apologies that the site is so raw right now - this is kind of a public
alpha release.)
