Subject: Assistant Professor Position: Environmental Risk Perception and
Decision Making (MSU)

Conservation Criminology, Environmental Risk Perception and Decision-Making
Assistant Professor School of Criminal Justice

The School of Criminal Justice and the Environmental Science and Policy Program
at Michigan State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-system
position at the assistant professor rank beginning August 16, 2014. The
applicant should demonstrate expertise in environmental risk perception and
decision-making related to environmental and natural resource crime and risk
and associated governance and enforcement. The candidate must demonstrate the
potential for external funding.
Additionally, experience or an interest in international research and
interdisciplinary collaboration will be a significant factor in reviewing
candidates. The anticipated appointment will be joint between the School of
Criminal Justice and the Environmental Science and Policy Program

The Conservation Criminology program addresses issues of environmental and
natural resource crime and risk through interdisciplinary study involving
criminology, natural resources, risk and decision-making, and global
environmental law. Global change is fueling resource conflicts, sustainability
challenges, and generating governance issues. Many of these conflicts are
likely to center around environmental security across a variety of vectors
(e.g., water, air, wildlife, forests, ecosystems). Understanding these coupled
human and natural system conflicts and the role of governance in environmental
security, or the lack thereof, is a critical component of the Conservation
Criminology Program as well as MSU interdisciplinary research initiatives in
Global Change and Water Science. This position is intended to contribute
directly to these issues.

A Ph.D. in criminology or criminal justice, environmental science, risk and
decision sciences or a relevant social science field is required.
Candidates must have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and
published scholarship. The School of Criminal Justice is the oldest continuous
degree-granting program in criminal justice with excellent Ph.D., masters, and
undergraduate programs and considerable support for faculty. The Environmental
Science and Policy Program is an innovative University-wide program that serves
as an umbrella for research and graduate education.

Application: Review of applications will begin November 15, 2013 and will
continue until the position is filled. Application Procedure: All application
materials should be submitted electronically through MSU @
http://www.hr.msu.edu/hiring/msujobs.htm. Reference posting number 8650.
Application materials include: letter of application, curriculum vitae, and
names and contact information for three references. Inquires can be directed to:
