Roundtable to Honor David Vogel's Contributions to Political Science

Friday, September 4
9:30 to 11:00 am
Nikko, Mendocino I
American Political Science Association Annual Meeting

In his distinguished career over the past four decades, David Vogel has made
major contributions to the study of business-government relations, comparative
public policy and regulation, international and comparative political economy,
and private global business regulation. Vogel's early work on national styles
of regulation opened up new avenues of inquiry in the field of comparative
regulatory policy. His extensive research on business power in American
politics shed new light on the changing dynamics of business-government
relations and interest group politics in the US over the past several decades.
His work on international regulatory competition and the "California Effect"
influenced major debates in the field of international political economy. His
comparative analysis of trends in environmental, consumer safety and health
regulation in the US and Europe had a profound influence on academic debates on
both sides of the Atlantic. As he nears retirement from UC Berkeley!
, we are organizing this roundtable to honor the career and contributions of
David Vogel. The roundtable brings together scholars whose work has been
profoundly influenced by Vogel's, to discuss and explore his impact on
political science.
