Funded Graduate Research Assistantship – Master of Arts in Marine Affairs

Coastal Identities, Environmental Attitudes, and the Implications for Communication and Policy

 

Position Description: The University of Rhode Island (URI) Department of Marine Affairs (weburi.edu/maf) is seeking a graduate research assistant to support a new interdisciplinary project investigating how coastal identities inform environmental attitudes and communication effectiveness. The research assistant will work directly with Professor Emily Diamond on a mixed-methods research project engaging with coastal fishing and aquaculture communities in New England. The ideal candidate can come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds but should be highly motivated and interested in social science, public engagement and communication of environmental issues. Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience with survey development, interviews, and basic statistical analysis preferred, but not required.

 

Interested students should apply to either the Master of Arts in Marine Affairs (M.A.M.A.) or the Master of Marine affairs (M.M.A). Applicants to the Ph.D. Program in Marine Affairs may also be considered for this assistantship. Full-time, 20-hour-per-week assistantship provides a stipend, health insurance, tuition remission (up to 12 credit hours/semester) and a waiver of 20 percent of student fees. Funding is available for one year, with the opportunity to extend for a second year contingent on performance and academic progress.
