Early Career Workshop on Advancing Climate Policy
Concordia University
May 15-16, 2023
Montréal, QC

Concordia University’s Interdisciplinary Working Group on Advancing Climate
Policy brings together researchers and graduate students studying critical
issues for effective and just climate action. It aims to develop a stronger
understanding of key opportunities and constraints for climate governance
and policy, such as public attitudes toward climate policy, climate
litigation, limits to adaptation, supply-side climate policies, and the
science-society contract in climate change research.

The Working Group is organizing a workshop for early career scholars on
advancing climate policy. This workshop will convene graduate students,
post-doctoral researchers, and junior faculty working on climate policy
from diverse disciplines to discuss current and future directions in
climate policy research. The workshop will be an opportunity to present and
discuss current research projects, receive feedback on draft manuscripts,
and debate opportunities and challenges for effective climate policy. Each
participant will submit a draft manuscript for discussion, and we will
discuss each in turn throughout the two-day meeting.

We welcome both theoretical and empirical papers that address any aspect of
climate policy and the policy-making process. Possible topics may include,
but are certainly not limited to:
• Defining and contesting “success” in climate policy
• Understanding why some climate policies succeed, and others fail
• Strategies for challenging and overcoming vested interests
• Climate policy integration
• Accountability in climate policy implementation
• Transformative policy pathways for climate action
• Traditional, local and Indigenous Knowledges in climate policymaking

To propose a paper for the workshop, *please submit a 250-500 word abstract
by March 10, 2023 to Drs. Sam Rowan (sam.ro...@concordia.ca) and Alexandra
Lesnikowski (alexandra.lesnikow...@concordia.ca)*. Abstracts will be
evaluated by the organizers and the authors will be notified of acceptance
by March 20, 2023. The workshop will be held from May 15-16 at Concordia
University in downtown Montréal.

Any questions about the workshop can be directed to Sam Rowan or Alexandra
Lesnikowski.

Please circulate this call widely.
