Description

The IBES sponsored project titled EPSCOR: RII Track-2 FEC: Community-Driven
Coastal Climate Research & Solutions (3CRS) for the Resilience of New
England Coastal Populations seeks applicants for the position of Research
Associate in Environment and Society. The successful applicant will work at
the direction of Dr. Leslie Acton in close collaboration with other project
PIs. The selected applicant will oversee, coordinate and conduct empirical
research for the creation of an innovative Community Knowledge Collective
(CKC) for four New England coastal communities. The CKC will comprise a
database of existing and collected knowledge about community health and
wellbeing related to climate change impacts and resilience.
Responsibilities will include qualitative data collection and analysis
(e.g., focus groups, interviews, document collection); large-scale database
management; coordination among project PI’s, partners, and communities;
coordination of undergraduate student support; as well as collaborating on
publication of project-related analyses with the possibility of leading
publications if desired.

Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, experience in
engaged research, and an ability to work both independently and
collaboratively with groups from diverse backgrounds. Any experience
coordinating large databases and/or working as part of a large,
interdisciplinary team is a plus. Candidates must hold no less than a
Masters degree in a relevant environmental discipline (including but not
limited to: geography, urban planning, sociology, anthropology, etc.) and
have some experience conducting independent research using qualitative data
collection methods to be considered. A PhD is preferred, however.

Level of education, years of relevant experience, and familiarity with the
research determine the pay rate and will be decided on using an
application-to-application basis. Relevant experience may include but
isn't limited to relevant research experience, teaching assistantships,
internships, residencies, former or current professional duties, and/or
other time spent in a related field beyond that of the qualifying masters
or doctoral degree. Once the appropriate salary level has been determined,
the Research Associate is paid at that level for the entire grant year.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to the commitment of the IBES
and University. Accordingly, IBES seeks qualified candidates who can
contribute to equity, diversity and inclusion through service, mentorship,
teaching and scholarship. Further, the IBES is keenly interested in
diversifying and encourages applications from diverse candidates.
Qualifications

   1. Masters degree required, PhD preferred

Application Instructions

To apply, please submit a CV and Cover Letter. Later and only if selected
as the job-finalist, two professional letters of recommendation will be
required.
