Funny enough, someone brought this conference up in class earlier in the week. 
Alongside their climate change efforts, the Heartland Institute (sponsoring 
this conference) looks to have had a long-standing involvement in promoting the 
wrong side of tobacco science as well, which doesn't do wonders for their 
credibility.

I was just happy to have gotten 8 out of 10 correct on their little  
quiz.

I guess this is unsurprising: these folks argue 2 + 2 = 4 (the  
science), implying X (the policy). They argue that we (the people on  
this list and others like it) base our policy conclusions (Y) on the  
ideologically-driven belief that 2 + 2 = 5. Showing their science to  
be right (which it often is, though about irrelevant issues) then  
implies our policy conclusions are wrong.
