Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies to my query regarding online video documentaries of negotiations. Here's what I've found:

1. YouTube has miscellaneous stuff on international environmental negotiations. It was somewhat hit or miss with a few searches, but I did find some great stuff--for example, "<http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Sku7YxPeuac>The Small Sticking Point in Bali Climate Talks," which is funny and short and gets across the notion of how tiny little things (as in a comma) can make all the difference.

2. An extensive video library at the FCCC website (see <http://unfccc.int/documentation/webcast_and_videos/items/2650.php>).

(For only those interested in such pedagogical quandaries over the use of video in class: I've dipped into a few of the FCCC videos, and am leaning toward showing the students a few random portions of the "<http://maindb.unfccc.int/public/webcast/episode.pl?id_episode=1141&;>Committee of the Whole Last Session" from the 1997 Kyoto negotiations. Between the opening and the closing, I'll have to pick and choose a few places to stop--the video is 8 hours long. In testing out a large number of random stops, I found that landing most anywhere shows the students just how laborious multilateral negotiations can be. But I'm more than willing to hear about a more effective approach.... Again, I'm not focusing on Kyoto here, but on showing students just what it means to be "inside" a real negotiations setting.)

Thanks again,

-Charlie
