Gerbil bites will often turn septic in humans, although not in gerbils
funnily enough. Make sure the wound is clean and you apply an antiseptic
lotion or cream.

There is a very small chance of rat-bite fever, although the odds are
extremely low. There is only one recorded case caused by domesticated
gerbils. If in a few weeks you break out in a rash, have a very high
temperature and you suffer severe joint pain, you may be case number
two! In the extremely unlikely event that you get a viral infection like
this you will need medical attention. But I seriously doubt it! it isn't
something to worry about!
