If you want to separate the male from the females, I would wait until a male
pup is old enough to be weaned. I wouldn't do this no earlier than 4 weeks
of age. That way you can take the dad out the same time you take a male pup
out. You wouldn't have to do an introduction this way. Yes, this may mean
one more litter of pups but at least it would be the least stress on the
male.

Sometimes it takes a day or two to get a response, depends on how busy we
all are. As for Merabell being nice to the pups, just keep a close eye on
her. Use your best judgement. You know her better than anyone else.

I found this to be common with new moms that live in multilevel cages. I
eventually removed all the top levels on my breeding pairs cages. They all
have only one level homes now.

Yes, it is normal.
It is ok for you to ocassionally dig (look) through the bedding to be sure
they are all in the nest. Sometimes I would find a pup burried somewhere
else in the cage and would move it back to the nest.
