Quick question - Please response as soon as posable.
Anyone ever given his or her gerbils a bath? My females have covered them
selves with urine smell, and I want to get rid of the smell and the urine.
How can I do this?

LOL! He HATED it! (he fell in while investigating the counter tops).

Seriously, water baths aren't recommended since gerbils are very afraid of
water. But, a dust bath can do wonders as a cleaning agent. Try chinchilla
dust, cornmeal, or (if available!) volcano dust. (Really, I did clean my
gerbils with Mt. Redoubt dust that we collected after it dropped in
Anchorage!) Put the dust in a shallow bowl and let the gerbils roll in the
dust. If they aren't sure what to do, just sprinkle them with the dust and
let them shake it off. Just place the bowl in their tank occassionally for
about 10 minutes or so then remove it. If you leave it in a long time, your
gerbils will use it for a bathroom and/or bed. And, since chinchilla dust is
somewhat pricey, you don't want to waste it as a bathroom.

I suppose if you are desperate to clean your gerbils, you might try wiping you
gerbils with a damp cloth. But your gerbils won't like it.

Hope that helps!
