I removed their food bowl from the bottom of aquarium to the shelf little
higher while they were always filling it up with wood shavings from the

Food bowl was on the floor more than 2 months (actually from their first day
here),
so would they be confused or something ?

I wouldn't worry about confusing them. They will find the food.
I have even removed some of my gerbil food bowls because of all the chewing
they do on the bowls. I sprinkle the food on the bedding. In nature, gerbils
are use to search for there food so I see no harm in not using a bowl. I do
know of others who have given up the bowls.
I also have some gerbils that actually keep their bowls free of bedding.
Those ones get to keep their bowl.
