Hi Esther:

$19.95 is a reasonable price for Degus, although prices can fluctuate somewhat
according to geography, time of the year and local availability.

In Ontario, Canada, Degu prices typically range from $9.95 to 29.95 with $14.95 being
the most common price point.

BTW, Degus have almost fully precocial offspring. With precocial litters, the
gestation period is extended resulting in offspring that are well-furred, have open
eyes, and are fully mobile. With Degus, the gestation period is roughly 82-86 days and
the kits are lightly furred and their eyes are open usually by the next day.

Chinchillas have very precocial litters with the kits arriving after a 111-day
gestation period very well furred, eyes open and raring to scoot around the cage.

In contrast, Gerbils have altricial litters wherein the pups are blind and hairless at
birth.

A similar contrast exists between rabbits [altricial litters] and hares [precocial
litters].
