So why not tell us a little bit more about you, like
where you're from, and if you have any other pets? (: Talk to you soon.

Thank you Kaitlynn and everyone who has taken time to write. I certainly
won't be getting my gerbil from a pet store. I have learned over the years
that it's much more fun to research a pet out and then find a reputable
breeder.
I have lots of pets, so my gerbil won't be able to play hide and seek in
the house with me. I have three dogs. A rescuefrom the pound, male dog named
Buddy who is about 8 years old. A Scottish terrier named Bonnie (4) and a
Papillon named Luckie(1). I've got three cats, only one is brave enough to
come in and face the Scottie, her name is Miss Kitty. One is so feral I have
to get a kindness traps some years to catch her for her annual shots, Wild
Kitty, and one sweet cat named Elizabeth, who is tame but doesn't like the
Scottie. They sleep on an electric Blanket in the garage when it's cold. I
have an African Grey named Elliot who lives in a gigantic cage right behind
me as I sit at the computer.
I raised love birds for a while, but I've re-claimed my porch and sold
all my little birds.
    I've got 4 children ages 21, 18, 16 and 4. I live in Wilmington, NC where
the hurricanes have hit about 4 times or so in the past 5 years. But my
house has been lucky.
The gerbil (or what ever I decide on) is more for me than for my son.
He'll get to enjoy it some but I wouldn't dare let him hold it without being
right on top of him. I'll have to be very careful between the Scottie and the
papillon. I have a good sense about what works and what won't.

Thanks again all!
