It is unusual for a mother with pups over about 18 days of age to accept
new young gerbils. Normally they will kill them.

On the other hand, males are very protective with young gerbils. If the
female seems OK with them, leave them as they are. I wouldn't put them
back with their mother if they are of an independent age as she may not
want them back.
