Seti@home is a project involving over a million people who are using
their computers (when they are not busy doing something else) to search
radio signals for signs of extraterrestrial civilizations. It is all a
bit of fun really. You download a small program which you can run as a
screen saver. The screen saver downloads data from Berkeley University
and works on it. When it is finished it sends back the results and gets
more data.
Groups of people with shared interests have banded together. There are
several people from this list in the group called "Search for
Extraterrestrial Gerbils".
