I got my very first gerbil when I was 9 for Christmas. I received a little
black female gerbil that was maybe 6 weeks old. I named her Drifus, but only
two days later I found her in her cage having a seizure..which killed her.
We took her back to the pet shop and they gave us a "replacement" gerbil
which was a female Golden Agouti pup. I named her Jasmine and i had her for
well over a year and a half.
After Jasmine i didn't have gerbils for awhile..I had a hamster at one
point, but decided I liked gerbils much more. My cousins had gerbils while I
didn't and i frequently cared for them while they were away...at one point
they even had a litter born.which I was able to help raise. I finally got
back into gerbil owning myself in 1998 which is also when i started breeding
my own gerbils.
