We got in trouble again <sigh> We went to PetCo for food and bedding and
came home with a new gerbie as well. He is a real cutie and very tame. We
suspect someone in the local area must have dropped him off as I don't think
many commercial breeders hand tame their products. Of course the main reason
we decided to purchase him was that he was being chewed on by the rest of
the gerbils in the group.

I don't know who is in charge of the small animal department of this
particular PetCo but I don't think they know what they are doing. For one
thing they had about five to seven gerbils in one enclosure and said
enclosure was only about 15" deep and had an open top. Obviously someone
does not know about the jumping abilities of gerbils, or that you can't just
dump them together and expect them to get along. Though it was obvious these
gerbils were young, they were a variety of sizes.

We have named him Dannflor Ruguba and he is either a REW or a REPF -- [how
do you tell the difference anyway?] His fur is a cream color with patches of
darker cream and his eyes are red. There is no difference in over all color
on any extremities.

Now comes the question of a cagemate for him... we are still deciding on
that. Don't know if we want to use him for breeding or just a pet.
We will keep you posted.
