I have a bird as well as a gerbil and as far as I'm concerned, the toys are
interchangeable....the bird chews just as much on his toys as the gerbil
does.....not to mention my bird loves toilet paper rolls, kleenx boxes,
strips of paper, balls, and other various li'l "nooks, crannies and
chewables" just as much as my gerbil does......in fact, my bird loves to
bother our guinea pig by playing with some of her toys, too.....both sets of
toys were designed to be played with/chewed on - especailly the ones
designed for bigger birds, so I see no reason why you can't give your gerbil
bird-toys....there are even some toys that they offer for birds, that would
be MUCH more appropriate for a gerbil....and actually if you think about
it...birds are harder to care for and tend to be more susceptible to
problems than gerbils are, so it's my opinion that if something is okay for
a bird, then it shoudl definitely be okay for a gerbil. For that matter,
some of the bird baths they have at the pet stores make perfect "dust baths"
for gerbils...they are sheilded to keep a maximum amount of water from
getting all over the rest of the cage and would work the same way for dust,
too....and they can be hung in the cage or set on the bottom ....
Any other opinions on the matter?

I was looking through one of my catalogs, and saw a bunch of bird toys, i
thought my gerbils might like, i just want to make sure if it's ok to give
them that, does anyone else give there gerbils bird toys? It seems that they
have a bigger varity of bird toys then gerbils toys... thanks

Kristen
