Sorry for the delay in reply - I've been on the dreaded late shift
and haven't been on line!

: Congratulations Jo, What do you think contributes to your
gerbils high
: survival rate?
No idea - we must have particularly good parent gerbils as even
the smaller 'runts' are given their share and catch up by 5 weeks.
I love the runts 'cos they're so friendly and not so skittish as
pups.

: What do you feed them?
'Gerri Gerbil' up to now, but where I used to get it does't stock
any specific Gerbil food any more (no sunflower seeds, we keep
them for special treats). I'm trying other foods but can't find
any in this area without the high fat stuff the hamsters love.
They also get bits of fruit, veg, peanut butter on toast, boiled
egg and other things to try every couple of days.

: What type of litter do you use?
We don't. mum Monica had a reaction to the original litter
(resulting in infection and antibiotic drops) and we've tried all
sorts of other things (including a free sample of paper based
cat/rat litter, which was still no good) but they make their own
from toilet & kitchen roll tubes. When pups are imminent we take
out the older pups (31ish days) & give the parents proper bedding
paper rather than TP which can be a bit powdery when shredded.

: Where is their tank located?
: What type of enclosure are they in?
It's a three tier cage in the corner of the playroom! Plenty of
daylight (kids never close the blinds!) but out of any direct sun.
Ideal place really.

Jo, Josh & Kyrie
(& Monica & Chandler & their 16 pups!)
