While we're on the subject of gerbil mutations, I was wondering about
deformations of the ears. One of my gerbils' ears lays flat on her head in a
weird folded manner. I'm not sure if she has any strange habits, but I was
just wondering if the deformed ear causes any problems? Also one of my
gerbils (I can't remember which) has a "kink" or 's' curve on her tail.
Would this have come when she was born or sometime while she was growing up
and mishandled? (I got her from a previous owner when she was about 3 months
old) Finally, when you guys talk about gerbils with red noses and
resperitory infections, what colour does the red look like on black gerbils.
I kept my gerbils on a soil/peat mix, then switched to aspen and then
switched back to soil/peat(it's cheaper) and I recently noticed one of my
gerbils has a burgundy colored nose area. I'm not sure if it is red or just
some soil on her face. Could she be ill? Please help me. Thanks in advance!
