Recently, I purchased "hide-away nests" for each gerbil cage. The
gerbils, of course, shredded them completely in less than 12
hours. The problem that I am having is that the shredded nest
mixed into their bedding is approximately the same color as a
DEH-- which makes Velvet a little hard to spot on the cam. I did
give them a ripped up paper towel to shred, in the hopes that
she'd pick a corner near the cam and build a little nest,
creating contrast and hopefully getting her settled into one spot
so that I can put the cam in for a closer shot of what's going on
with her. So far, no luck.

I don't think this cam is designed for capturing small things
close up-- I have no problem getting a clear picture of my
loveseat on the other side of the room. Still working at it, and
the picture is improving. (I am climbing up that learning curve.
<G>)

The moral of this story is to stick with cardboard boxes, wooden
houses, and glass jars for your gerbils to hide in, because some
of the other products designed for rodents just can't take a
gerbil assault. I do stand by my purchase of tiny ceramic food
dishes for each cage-- the gerbils really seem to enjoy burying
them, and I have the fun of playing "Hunt The Dish" at feeding
time. (LOL)
