You can make a bottle guard of an empty food can and a hanger. You would
have to make a hole near the bottom edge of the can for the spout to come
out. Bend the wire hanger in such a way that it holds the can and be hung
from the wire.

A wire hanger may not be necessary if you have some type of wire that you
can attach to the can by putting some holes near the top edge of the can.

I believe someone on the list has a website on how to make things for
gerbils including this type of bottle holder.
