Re: my gerbil who was stretching and scratching... Took her to a vet who checked her
out for obstructions, bloating, etc - apparently stretching like that often indicates
abdominal cramping/pain. She also noticed redness around the nose, which lead her to
diagnose an infection of some kind. She said gerbils rarely get anything viral, and
that usually once they're sick enough for us to notice it's too late. But she gave me
anti-biotics, and Duchess is doing much better.  We have to finish out the meds;
Duchess is being very good-natured about the whole thing, all things considered - I
can just hear her cursing and cussing in the most vile gerbil language possible when
she sees that awful syringe, but not once has she tried to bite me. She's pretty much
back to her normal self. Thanks for the support, gerbil list! :)

P.S. Should I worry about medicine going down the "wrong pipe" when forced upon an
animal like this? I've tried bribing her by putting it on treats, but she simply will
not take the medicine like that any more... So far no ill effects aside from a very
disgruntled gerbil.
