Please have a look the following. A person who has asked to remain
anonymous has suggested some projects that people with new websites
might like to have a go at:
<----------------------------------------------------------------->
Suppose creative juices of aspiring webmasters could be channeled into new
and original work? Suppose there were some place where they could get an
original idea, one that would be sure to win applause if they execute it
well?
Suppose NGS Index (or other place) had a list: Gerbils Web Projects That
Need Doing? Suppose the keeper of that list (not I) solicited ideas
periodically from GML readers; and provided a paragraph of description;
and perhaps email addresses of people who could help to get the worker
started? It would be fair to note WHO has undertaken a given project, and
when, to foster collaboration.
Four examples that would be within the competence of a budding Web artist,
and could lead to fame such as Ehrenfried's and others' for niche useful
sites:
** Gerbils color swatches --
Design a page that shows coat colors, including ticking. NOT photographs
of full gerbils, though colors could be captured from good photos of good
specimens. Get expert consensus that a swatch is a good representation of
that color and ticking. Design so that a viewer can easily compare
similar colors. Expand the swatches catalog to include non-standard
colors, and gerbils during various stages of maturation. Add notes to
help a novice decide what color a gerbil is. (Genetics info would be
incidental.)
** Additional illustrations of gerbils coloration --
This would supplement Eva Maisel's drawings for NGS Standards. Similar
drawings (maybe the same ones) but use colors from photos (as suggested
above). Full-screen size, with notes and arrows to highlight what
distinguishes THIS gerbil from other colorations.
** Gerbil genetics flash cards that can be printed out
Gary's scheme for learning what genetics symbols represent.
** Gerbil clipart (free of copyright) for use in screensavers, holiday
cards, stationery
For both screen apps and hi-res for printout. With aids so a kid can
print a sheet of stationery to write an actual snail mail note to someone.
Just BTW -- a few people with lots of kids experience might co-ordinate
all this. Like G.M. and Sue Green and Janet Morrow. They also might have
the GML stature to enlist adult coaches to pair up with novice web
artists.
<-------------------------------------------------------------->
Does anyone think there is any mileage in this? If so, is anyone
prepared to co-ordinate it?
