One of the six in Cara's current litter died last night. At about 3 plus weeks old five of the pups seemed to be puffed up and glazed-eyed and slow developing plus clicking and felt cool. (The sixth was big, bright-eyed, and healthy.) So I warmed one side of the tank to 80 degrees, and with the smallest three supplemental feed them kitten replacement milk twice a day. I put a bird treatment for respitory problems (Ornacycline/tetracycline) in the water bottle (I'm continuing for 10 days). The three that I supplemental fed all seem to be doing great now -- sleek fur and shiny, big, black eyes. The two I didn't supplement feed didn't look good when I check them yesterday. One died last night. The other is puffed but is taking some KMR -- don't know if he'll make it. I had this same problem with 2 of Cara's pups in the last litter of 5, that seemed to hit a point of slowed development and need help getting through the weaning stage. (One pup from that litter died at 4 weeks). This is Cara's last litter, though, I am not breeding her any more.
