I am not sure. Lilacs can look similar to a biege Chinchilla.
Genetically they are similar and sometimes gerbil will appear more
brownish than flat grey.
On the other hand, what you describe sounds lighter than this. It may be
some sort of dilute red-eyed nutmeg (aa??ee??pp). If so, it will moult
to a less yellow colour.
