Hi all ! This could be a bit longer but very interesting post . We have young gerbil pair (4 months old) and one female who lost her mate about 3 months ago ... She wants to go out only a one or two times a week (so we concluded that it is when she is in heat) ... Once while pair was out she wanted to go too ... We took her and put her near the boy (while holding her) they sniffed each other and he imediately started thumping (that "sex. excitment" and not "danger" thumping) ... Then we put them both on the small table ... And ... she first tried to mount him and then she started to tump and actually tried to "force" him to mount her ! That was cutest ritual that we've ever seen ...The only thing was that he just chased her a few times and looked like he didn't find it too interesting ...but she kept coming to him thumping and "asking" him to mount her ! The only thing that we don't know is - Why he didn't want it - while he loves his current partner or while he is too young ? Btw . a few months ago we tried split cage with those two (before he got his current girl) and she didn't want him ! Well all I can say is that it's really strange and funny ..and we'll do our best to get her a new partner while she really needs one ! Bye ! ... Dejan & Nives
