Fell and broke their back; a swelling or tumor against the
spinal column preventing the nerves from functioning; or
a stroke. My guess is the first one and two, and the third
a dim third.
Give it a day of observation...and make sure it is able to
express it's bladder. If that is not happening, then there is
little hope for recovery, even if you assist the animal in
expressing the bladder. If it is swelling, it should diminish
in a few days. If it is a tumor (or growth) then there will
be no improvement....
If there is a vet around there that will see gerbils, you
should take it in and have it checked.
