Well, lets see....

In my year of gerbil breeding, I have never seen the birth. I got to on
Sunday. I had just gotten home from Creation Festival 2000 (see
www.creationfest.com for info) and found Honey and one pup. I've never had
a litter less than 5 so I knew she was in labor. It was the strangest
thing; she kicked her back legs up againest everything while the previous
litter of 5 and the father check in on her every few minutes. She would
constantly check herself and sometimes leave the nest and walk around as if
nother were happening. I had a flashlight on hand to see everything. She
would eat the umbilical cord after or during each birth. She delivered 5
healthy pups, which she is curenly nursing.

On Monday, she chased her older 5 pups around so I moved them to a bird cage
I have (just in case). I keep the bird cage around in case of fights and
such where I would have to seperate a gerbil. I've used it a few times.
Anybody want any black gerbils? Thats right, the older litter of 5 are all
black. If anyone is interested, I'll check on their sexes; otherwise,
they'll go to the petstore who have taken my litters before. They'll only
take 6 week gerbils and only on Thursdays, so if you want one speak up now.

As for the 3 surviving of the litter of 6 that lost its mother are all still
living with their father. Two agouti and one black, the father is agouti.
All 3 pups are female and are getting ready soon to go to their new home (by
next week). They are doing fine I'm happy to report.

My other two gerbils, Oak and Engy, are doing fine. They are patiently
waiting for their new cage. I'm taking my time making it but when it is
done I'll have a picture. It is curently waiting for a plexiglass door. It
is made of a table/cabinet I have. I've taken the door off and added wire
mesh to the top 2/3. The bottom will be the door made of plexiglass and be
conected either by velcro or magnetic srips. That way I can take the whole
bottom front off and just sweep the litter out into a bag. Easy cleaning is
what I'm thinking. I'm going to add a seconnd floor, still haven't thought
of how to do that yet though. Later I will put a whole in the wire mesh and
add tubing that goes into a large tank which will be sitting on the top of
the table/cabinet/cage. Anyone want to add any ideas to my vacation home
for my soon to be only 2 gerbil residents?

As for my other pet, a female guinea pig named Weeble: She will soon be
having a new cage friend. I have contacted a lady in Lancaster, PA who has
a litter of 2 one female and one male. I'm looking for a long haired grey
female and if the female baby turns out to be so she will be mine. Greedy
huh? If not, I'll continue my search for the missing long haired grey
female guinea pig. Can anybody, the animal lovers that you are not only to
gerbils, help me? Know a breeder, a web site, anything?

Anyone in the mood to laugh? I keep bugs during the summer (not the funny
part yet). I caught an odd one at work and set Peper (its new name) up with
a cage. Peper looks like a milipede but her legs have joints and go up and
then go down to touch the ground. Thing of a Daddy Long Legger's (also
known as a Harvester) legs, though not nearly as long. Un like a milipede
and like a Daddy Long Legger, Peper can walk on walls. Anyway, I found an
inchworm one day and added it to Peper's cage and days later found out that
Peper eats other insects (found this out when I couldn't find the inch
worm). I decided to add some small crickets to Peper's cage and the moment
I did she ate 3! This was all before I left for Creation. I came back
Sunday and checked out all my animals. Everything fine, but Peper and the
crickets needed water. I watered their cotton ball and after that droped
the whole cage! (funny part) Crickets went everywhere! And no site of
Peper since. Now I have about 12 crickets and one unidentified insect
living freely in my bedroom. I caught a few crickets and put them in a new
container with new grass seed as the bedding so to speak. Yesterday I
decided to hang on to the hope that Peper might have held on the the
crumbled up napkin in their cage when I droped it and checked to see if she
was there. She wasn't, but I droped the cage a second time and lost all the
crickets (a total of 5) that I had cought. Well, I give up. They can all
die; however, I do hope I can catch Peper. I was thinking: I could let
loose one of my gerbils to catch all the crickets. What do yall think?

Thats it for my update. Hope you enjoyed it. Hope to here some replies!
Also I'm still working on my web site! I want to make a new front page
pretty soon so look for that next week.
