away, and by letting it out in the yard, no less. I talked him out of it,
but he will have nothing more to do with the gerbils. The moral here is that
if you squeeze them too hard, or grab them too fast, they will likely follow
their little instincts and bite. It isn't the gerbil's fault, or ours
either, it's just a fact of life. But you're right to say that your brother
shouldn't take them outside; it's not safe for them. What if they get away
and some predator gets them, or they get lost? Good luck with your brother
and his gerbils.

I'm almost certain that one or the other--or even both--of your guesses are
correct. He's simply awful about picking up gerbils! I don't let him grab
at "mine" of course but I can't very well be there every time he's grabbing
at "his"(I still do not consider that he owns any gerbil other than Scrabble!
I get too attached to my gerbil litters : 0-), ) gerbils, though, or make
him stop even when I'm there. Don't get me wrong, he's not abusing them
maliciously or anything (I should hope not!) it just seems like he forgets a
lot that they are living beings whose care and welfare is entrusted to him.
(I would say that the gerbils expect him to take care of them, but I, being
human, quite frankly am not very good at reading Scrabble or most of our
other gerbils' minds, Radar being the exception because she's the one who
acts human and is easy to personify(is that a word?). After all, no one else
gives me that accusing glare like she does!)
Yeah, I've told him a number of times about gerbils and outside, but have you
ever tried explaining something to a younger brother? It's harder than it
seems! He's at least put poor Dragon back in with Omega and Scrabble now,
though. (I've been referring to a lot of my gerbils as "poor" lately,
haven't I? : 0-/ )
