I have had this problem before. What I did was give the male extra
exercise outside the tank. I gave the female some of the more fattening
tidbits while he was out exercising or while she was out on her turn.

At that age, I can't see that being a problem. I don't know that you could
keep them that way for several weeks, though, you might run the risk of
some of them maturing and deciding to reproduce! I think it's usually 10
weeks old but I can't remember for sure ... someone will know surely. :)
