I wopuld keep them together so long as you check on them daily.  Id not
seperate until or IF you see signs their relationship is deteriorating.
Gerbils are social animals and I think that they are more happy in groups,
even if females, then alone.  They only are sperated because sometimes their
hormones get the better of them.  So long as it doesnt get the better of
them, which in soem it wont, I think they should remain in company of other
gerbils :)

I do think if you keep a female pair you shoudl know that you MIGHT one day
need to seperate them and have the space and supplies needed to o so if and
when that times come.

Also, with agressors- my experience is- seperate out the agressor.  leave
the rest together.  If you take out the one that was being bettern up
instead, the agressor will just pick a different remaining cage mate to beat
up.
