First of all, are you sure there are no pups?
Second, if there's none, are you positive they're mating? Sometimes when a
female is in labor the male will mount her and even check himself but no
actual mating.
Third, if it's true mating with no pups, maybe she had one or two that
died? But you may just have to face the facts... she could have just gained
weight and wasn't actually pregnant :(
