I am going to add my $.02 on this topic. To me, the GML is my gerbil family. When I visit with my biological family, we discuss news, health concerns, and how to do things. But we also talk about the amusing things that have happened or we have heard about. Without the amusing things our talks would tend to be boring and/or depressing. I think there is a place for the cute gerbil antics and birth announcements on the GML. If we can reduce the number of long messages sent back to the GML where "I agree" has been added, that would be more useful that moving the social messages off the list, IMHO.
