Hi,

I have a very unusual-looking gerbil born August 27 in my latest litter, and
I was wondering if any of the breeders on this list might know what gene
could be responsible for his appearance. There is a family history:

Father: Birch, spotted red eyed schimmel, **C*e(f)e(f)G*ppSp+ (Alaskan
origin)

Mother: Kiche, polar fox, AaC*e(f)e(f)ggPp (bred by me)
Kiche is the daughter of Daisy, a female spotted red eyed schimmel,
AaC*e(f)e(f)GgppSp+ (from Meg Hurley's stock) and Joto, a male spotted
silver nutmeg, aaCCeeggPPSp+ (Kelly Christenson's stock). Both Daisy and
Joto produced pups with DPP characteristics with other partners. The pair
produced several distinctive DPP pups together. (There is a chance that
Daisy carries c(b), as her parents were reported to have produced a
colorpoint of some variety.)

Pups: This is the first litter, 5 total, 4 surviving. 1 spotted schimmel,
one spotted red eyed schimmel, one dark eyed honey/schimmel, and 1 mystery
color.

Mystery color has red eyes. He has very, very pale orange fur on his body,
including his belly. From the top of his forehead back to the end of his
rump is an unbroken line of intense orange color. This line is the width of
the distance between his ears. His forehead and face are a roaning of the
two color intensities. The body fur that covers the very base of his tail is
light orange, but his tail is the intense orange color all the way to the
tip. He has white front feet, white ends to his rear feet, and a large bib
of white on his chin and throat. He has no typical white spot markings on
his face, head, neck or tail.

My guess is that he is aaC*ee(f)GgppSp+, but I can't account for the pale
and intense pattern he has. Is it possible that this is some manifestation
of DPP characteristics? If not, any theories as to what is at work here?

Thanks,

Amy H. aka MScottMGP
