There were a couple of postings on free gerbils. I know that the humane
society and rescue leagues always make sure in the placing of animals to
charge a fee. Sadly, give-away animals can just invite abuse:
1) It is an invitation for use as reptile food, animal baiting, or other
cruel sport/amusement
2) A person that cannot afford to buy a pet is not in a good position to
buy food, litter, medicine, or vet expense.
A better alternative that I've found is to pay $10 for an ad in the
local paper and then charge $10 for the gerbil pair. Or put together a
complete setup for $25 and sell the gerbils & housing for the $25.
