egg cartons

What about egg cartons for gerbils?  Not the styrofoam kind, but the
cardboard kind.  Is this kind of cardboard bad for them?  Anyone know if
it's treated with anything?

I would think it'd be great for them to chew on, get in or under and have
fun with.
