Years ago when I was a kid I used that fluffy pre-packaged stuff on many
hamsters and 2 gerbils.  I thought things were fine until I had a
hamster that ate it and swelled up and died.  (Of course I didn't figure
out what the cause was until later.)  If you haven't had problems with
this type of nest material, consider yourself lucky.  Like Deb said,
it's only a matter of time.
