If you like corncob you could add lots of plain cheap toilet paper.  They'll use that for nesting.

Thanks for the replies.  I was wondering about that.  I currently use carefresh (along with providing plenty of papertowel rolls, tp rolls, cereal boxes, etc for them to chew for more)
I was reading another poster who mentioned hay and straw for his gerbs.
Are there any "safe" alternatives to carefresh out there?  I have used corncob and they seem fine but until they chew up considerable amounts of cardboard items they have nothing to nest in. 
Perhaps saving some of the original nesting material and building them a new nest in their newly cleaned home until  they chew up more for themselves?
